Saints & Co -
Cliff Hicks - (Brass Band version) Grade: ■■ A novelty march for young bands. 4 minutes 45 seconds This piece is a selection of traditional tunes all linked by a strong drum rhythm. Even though it is good concert material and very playable, it is also a worthwhile exercise for various reasons namely; Unison in horns – assists tuning and intonation; Similarly unison for cornets; A chance for lower brass to lead - harmony in upper parts; Glissandi in trombones are slight but need to be heard; The middle section includes a pyramid which helps to train for balance in parts; Change of tempi – very important; Staccato crotchets! – Care not to accelerate by closing the gaps; Hairpins require sensitive balance; Drummer to be steady and competent;
