was founded in 2005 by the husband and wife team of
After studying for the "Bandmaster's Certificate" under Ralph Nellist, Cliff took up the baton with the Swinton and District Excelsior Band. Here he built up the band from 13 members to a cup winning force of 33, in 2 years. Diane, also extremely supportive, gave her time sacrificially and built up the extensive music library; a proud legacy to be passed on. Cliff also worked in association with the late John Childs and, with John, was co-director of the Yorkshire and Humberside Brass Band Association Youth Band (60 strong). Cliff has also enjoyed playing at Championship level with Bradford Victoria, the Rowntree Band, York, and the Kirkbymoorside Town Band. Even though Cliff has put down the baton, he still "holds the fort" at Swinton and District Excelsior Band when the MD is away. In his spare time, Cliff enjoys composing simple concert pieces for young bands - hence WINDFAYRE |

Cliff
and Diane Hicks. Cliff and Diane have been keen supporters of the Brass
Band movement for over 48 years. Cliff learned to play the cornet at the
age of eleven. After Graduating, he entered the teaching profession and
founded the Wind Band at The Manor School York, in 1972. This band
continues to flourish and the School now enjoys its new status as a Special
Technology School in Performing Arts
